“Critical"Thinking"Blog"Post"#6”

My topic is the perils of cloning. I am using Kazou Ishiguro's novel “Never Let Me Go", a book which I borrowed from the library. This is a fictional novel about special and gifted children who were reared and brought up for a sole purpose of “donating". Yes! Donating! These children were clones and the reason they were brought up was to donate their organs. The main setting of this story was in Hailsham, which a dormitory school. One of the main characters was Kath a resident/student in Hailsham who in the story narrates all about their childhood experiences and as it goes by a scary secret reveals.
This novel is very interesting; there is a twist of science and humanism in it. This  will help me with my research paper about perils of cloning.  It address about clones that just live like normal people. As I read the novel this question came in my mind, will cloning be consider as beneficial to mankind or its ethical perils will outweigh it? My research thesis will be base on this question.
I will Ray Kurzweil’s “The Singularity Is Near” to support my research about the benefits of cloning to humans. This is a book that can be read in the course pack. Kurweil is a techno romanticist who believes that cloning is one of the answers to everything.

Critical Thinking Blog Post #4

Friends or Foes?

I haven't seen this movie, only the trailer but it caught my attention. I just remembered one of the robot clip that was shown in the class that looks like this robot in the movie. I think robots are not really a treat to humanity. we design robots how we want them to be or what their purpose should be. They don't have the freewill to think nor consciousnesses. For this movie this robot was design for the purpose of being a companion to this old and lonely man.

Well for this one, is a different situation, and I think this is very impossible to happen. A robot that has the ability to think independently. While watching this movie for the first half an hour I though that a human tried to manipulate the robots to do some nasty stuff to people. Then when I found out that it was the " Mother System " of the robots was responsible for this, I though its very impossible. Nothing like this in real life ( or in the future) can happen.

LIB200 assignment no.3

Oh, I'm still trying to get use to this blog site. I just can't decide.. though I know that there is always one thing that interest me. I want to research about cloning, which is the closes topic to genetics (my favorite field of study). I'm trying to choose between research idea no. 2 and 6. Research idea number 2 is about The promise and Peril of a Science and technology, for this idea I want to research about The promise of human cloning vs. potential problems. I want to cite Ray Kurzweil works on " The Singularity in Near". I want to use his ideas about cloning. Also another ideas that I want to use is a science fiction about cloning written by Caryl Churchill titled "A Number". For the research idea no.6 I want to write about human cloning in films. Though, I don't know any movies about cloning. There is one movie on the list which is about cloning and I'll try to watch that. If the movie doesn't interest me maybe I'll just stick to Caryl Churchill's play about cloning. As long as the topic is regarding cloning or genetics, I'll never get tired of researching about it.

LIB200

Two of my favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad and CSI. Breaking Bad is about a chemist who happens to have cancer. Walter White is the main character in this show; he decided to use his intellect in chemistry to earn money for his treatment by cooking meth (an illegal drug). Walter White survived from cancer but that didn’t make him stop from cooking meth. Well the science that they use in this show is true its chemistry!!. Chemistry make people do and invent some stuff that can threaten mankind. The other which I also want to talk about is Crime Scene Investigation also known as CSI. This show is about crime scene investigators who use technology and science to solve crimes. This show depicts that science and technology are not that scary after all, it also helps mankind. .Both of this shows have high ratings, a lot of people in America watches this kind of shows. I think one of the reasons why a lot of people watch these shows are because of the thrill and also sometimes these shows are informative. You know the feeling, that you are very excited to know what will happen next, like for example in CSI, you feel the thrill to know whether who the bad guy is. Breaking Bad is sometimes informative, it tells us about some chemicals such as their uses and properties, actually I learned some things from the show. I know all sciences that they use in this shows happens in real life. To my opinion science is a combination of both; it can threaten us and also can help mankind. I think it
all depends on us whether we use science for the good or bad.

LIB 200

My name is Angelica Gador. I came here in the United States five years ago. I am majoring in math and science and expecting to graduate on summer. After graduating  from LaGCC, I will study to be a Physician Assistant. Then my plan is to obtain a PhD in genetics and do research or join a research team in genetics engineering.  Obviously, I'm more a science person. I've been studying science mainly biology ever since I was in the Philippines and I really enjoy it. I notice that I get high grades to all science subjects I studied, compare to those humanities courses such as philosophy. Though, there is one scientific theory that I highly disagree of, it is the Theory of Evolution. I believe in the Divine theory, I was raise in a family of Christians, but that didn't stop me from liking to study science. To my opinion humanities is interconnected to science. Humanities makes people imaginative and ask questions which can lead to  scientific studies. These two subjects can help people be more aware of their being and can contribute to a better humanity.
